Scope

FIRE was started in 2008 and is commonly described as a South Asian counterpart to TREC, CLEF, and NTCIR. It has emphasized multilingual information access, Indian languages, mixed-script retrieval, legal information access, and related evaluation tasks.

Not equivalent to

  • FIRE is not CLEF. FIRE and CLEF are distinct evaluation programs and communities, even though both support multilingual information-access evaluation.
  • FIRE is not Test Collection. FIRE is an evaluation program and meeting; a test collection is an evaluation resource produced or used by specific FIRE tasks.
  • FIRE is not TREC. FIRE and TREC are distinct evaluation programs, though FIRE was modeled as a regional counterpart to programs such as TREC, CLEF, and NTCIR.
